About TBM

In Baia Mare, the first theater troupe appeared in 1796, under the direction of János Nagy. On December 30, 1952, the State Theater (later called „Dramatic”, and now „Municipal”) was established, with its headquarters in the „Popular” cinema hall.
A moment of reference in the history of the Baia Mare theater was the activity of Mihai Dimiu (later became a director and theater professor at IATC), which formed a group of highly valuable actors: Coca Andronescu, Ştefan Mihăilescu-Brăila, Tănase Cazimir, Lulu Savu (the first emeritus from the band), Ion Săsăran.

The collaboration remains with the great director Liviu Ciulei, who set up „Sarah’s Life” by William Saroyan and „Sleep of Reason” by Antonio Buero Vallejo at the Baia Mare theater. It was the only theater outside the capital where the famous director arranged two shows.
